Remember that book titles are reviews done by students. So why am I posting this message? Since we're embarking on building a new library which will be called an "IMC" or Instructional Media Center, I wanted to bring you up-to-date on what's happening in other libraries, namely, Library 2.0 also known as L2.
In John Blyberg's blog posting, "11 Reasons Why Library 2.0 Exists and Matters," http://www.blyberg.net/2006/01/09/11-reasons-why-library-20-exists-and-matters/ Mr. Blyberg quotes Sarah Houghton's definition of L2:
"Library 2.0 simply means making your library’s space (virtual and physical) more interactive, collaborative, and driven by community needs. Examples of where to start include blogs, gaming nights for teens, and collaborative photo sites. The basic drive is to get people back into the library by making the library relevant to what they want and need in their daily lives…to make the library a destination and not an afterthought."
Ms. Houghton's definition says it all. As we build our new IMC, may it embody the spirit of L2 in meeting the needs of today's students. Let it be a place they want to visit. In the process, may they learn and grow.
